World Series Game 7 Attracts 51 Million Audience Members Across the US, Canada and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting 11-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run drew a total over 50 million viewers across the United States, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB stated this represents the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 edition contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

The Saturday memorable contest secured 27.33 million audience members on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series game after the 2017 final game between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This represents a 16% increase compared to the previous finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed 4th, the fourth game ranked 7th, Game 5 was 8th, and Game 3 landed in 13th place.

Global Audience Numbers

In Canada, the game recorded 11.6 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English program in Canada after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest started at 9 PM local time, it attracted 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – recorded 13.1 million spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Averages and Trends

The full seven-match series averaged over 15.7 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen audience growth for two straight seasons.

Including the opening game broadcast on Univision, the total US viewership reached 16.1M. The total World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels averaged over 8 million viewers, an 8% increase over last year and Fox’s best postseason performance since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in sixteen different tongues.
